Jimmy Lee Ruffin        1936-2014

soul singer

best known for his plaintive 1966 Top 10 hit

“What Becomes of the Brokenhearted”

(...)

Mr. Ruffin

was not one of the biggest stars

in the Motown stable

of the 1960s and ’70s,

which also included,

among many others,

the Supremes, Marvin Gaye,

the Four Tops, the Jackson 5

and the Temptations

— whose million-selling

1965 single “My Girl”

featured his brother David Ruffin

as lead singer.

But in 1966 and 1967,
