Baez was at the forefront of the civil rights movement, and took part in the historic walk from Montgomery to Selma highlighting racial injustice in the American south.

Joan Baez first appeared at the Newport folk festival in 1959, releasing her self-titled debut album a year later.
She introduced her audiences to a largely unknown Bob Dylan when the pair appeared at the festival in 1963.
