L’œuvre du maître américain est connue,

mais on l’envisage rarement

du point de vue de sa production

dans les magazines.

 

De grandes pages sur les murs enfoncent le clou

sur l’intérêt du photographe pour l’ordinaire et l’anonyme :

la forme des outils des ouvriers,

les couleurs des affiches dans les rues,

les passagers du métro.

 

On a du mal à croire

que le magazine Fortune ait laissé publier,

entre deux sujets design,  un ensemble de Walker Evans

sur le vieux mobilier typiquement américain

qu’on trouve encore dans certains bureaux.

 

Le tout donne aussi l’occasion de lire les textes du photographe,

fasciné par la poésie du quotidien.
