Despite a long and diverse career in the theatre and cinema, Patrick Macnee (...) will be remembered as John Steed, the umbrella-twirling, bowler-hatted hero of the stylish derring-do TV series The Avengers.
The programme, written and presented in “swinging” 1960s London, was thrilling and dynamic, and it made a star of Macnee and his sidekicks Honor Blackman (as Cathy Gale) and Diana Rigg (as Emma Peel).

Diana Rigg 1938-2020
Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire, on 20 July 1938. She trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from 1955-57 and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1959
