The Apple TV+ series
depicts a planet
on the brink
of environmental crisis,
where ordinary human beings
battle increasingly hostile elements,
and a villainous tech tycoon seeks
to take over the world.
Yet in contrast to apocalyptic
climate change dramas,
like The Day After Tomorrow
Extrapolations doesn't dwell
on the End of Days.
"We wanted to focus
on what we call the 'messy middle,' "
series creator Scott Burns
told NPR in an interview.
"Because before we get to the end,
there's a lot of life
that we're all gonna have
to go through."
Despite the barrage
of daily news headlines
devoted to climate change,
there still aren't
many fictional TV shows
and movies that deal
with the topic.
that do tend towards disaster,
picturing the end of life on Earth
as we know it.
But Extrapolations attempts
to walk the line
between fiction and scientific fact
to tell the story of what's at stake
for our planet
over the next few decades.

Roots remake USA 2016
This new Roots works its way
through stories along several generations.
It still leaves room,
as did the original, for a sequel
— but the central Roots story remains potent enough,
and even more so in this new telling.
Characters are given more time,
and the actors do wonders with their scenes —
especially Kirby as Kunta Kinte, Rose as Kizzy,
and Page as Chicken George.
You'll feel for them and their journeys.
This new Roots is a TV miniseries
that not only should be seen but, like the original,
definitely deserves to be talked about.
Roots ABC USA 1977
The original Roots miniseries,
based on the 1976 Alex Haley novel
tracing his own family tree
from African tribal life
to American slavery and freedom,
was a phenomenon.
ABC showed it over consecutive nights
in January 1977,
not because it was expected to earn huge ratings
but because network executives were afraid
So they crammed the entire miniseries
into an eight-day prime-time marathon,
which aired, by coincidence,
during a massive winter storm
that snowed in much of the Northeast.
Roots was TV's
original binge-viewing experience,
and it kept drawing more viewers every night.
still one of the most-viewed scripted
programs in TV history,
was seen by more than 100 million people.
It started a new national dialogue
about race and racism,
and slavery and genealogy,
and launched or heightened
the careers of several black actors,
including LeVar Burton, John Amos,
Leslie Uggams, Louis Gossett Jr.
and Ben Vereen.
“Roots” transfixed Americans
— first as an overnight best seller
by Alex Haley,
then as an ABC mini-series,
which drew 100 million viewers (...).
It made the slave trade and black history
inescapable parts of national popular culture
and produced a unique moment
when ordinary Americans
talked about slavery in workplaces,
bars, churches and schools.

The Wild Wild West is an American Western,
espionage, and science fiction television series
that ran on the CBS television network
for four seasons from September 17, 1965,
to April 11, 1969.
Two satirical comedy television film sequels
were made with the original cast in 1979 and 1980
and the series was adapted for a theatrical film in 1999.
Developed at a time
when the television Western was losing ground to the spy genre,
this show was conceived by its creator,
Michael Garrison, as "James Bond on horseback."
Set during the administration
of President Ulysses Grant (1869–1877),
the series followed Secret Service agents
James West (Robert Conrad)
and Artemus Gordon (Ross Martin)
as they solved crimes, protected the President,
and foiled the plans of megalomaniacal villains
to take over part or all of the United States.
The show featured a number of fantasy elements,
such as the technologically advanced devices
used by the agents and their adversaries.
The combination of the Victorian era time-frame
and the use of Vernean technology
has led several steampunk web sites
to cite the show as a pioneering influence on the genre.
This aspect was accentuated
even more in the 1999 film adaptation.
Despite high ratings,
the series was cancelled near the end of its fourth season
as a concession to Congress over television violence.
