Ruby Dee 1922-2014
Ruby Ann Wallace, as Ms. Dee was known when she was born in Cleveland on Oct. 27, 1922, grew up in Harlem.
She became a leading advocate for civil rights, and lent her voice and presence to the cause of racial equality outside show business.
Here, she and Sammy Davis, Jr., center, attended the Prayer Pilgrimage for Freedom at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in 1957.
